THE HISTORY OF POSTAL CREDIT UNION
In 1931, eleven postal employees organized our credit union with a total of $440.00 in assets. We were the first credit union in Baton Rouge, and the sixth to be chartered in the State of Louisiana.
The annual salary of postal employees was only $800.00 and unfortunately, most was indebted to loan sharks. The Post Office was deeply concerned over this situation, and actively encouraged the formation of credit unions in most post offices so that their employees would have a cheaper source of credit.
Postal Credit Union remains determine to deliver “First Class" Service to our “First Class" members. We have expanded our membership to include ALL employees Federal Agencies living or working in zip codes starting with 704, 707 or 708. We are proud to say “we are still growing”
